Some changes to the Ylliks blog
As you may have noticed in the last week or so, some changes have come to this blog. This has everything to do with me finding out what I want this blog to be.
Some time ago I was pointed to this blog (through this excellent article) which is not so much a blog as it is a lifestream (powered through Friendfeed) of all the things he shares on the service. At that time I wasn’t so eager of creating a lifestream but due to my Twitter experiences that has changed.
I warmed up to the idea of my blog being a personal lifestream. Not one where every personal or trivial thing about me is thrown onto the web (that’s something I’ll never do) but one where I share the things I do on the small number of social sites I’ve joined (on a (almost) daily basis I tweet and share on StumbleUpon and Google Reader) and write about the things I find interesting. Because I wanted to keep using WordPress (which I find to be an excellent blogging tool) and I already used the Twitter tools plugin (which could fetch and display my tweets in a blogpost), I figured it was just a matter of finding another plugin and things would be fine.
That assumption proved to be wrong. To keep a long story short, let’s just say that some plugins don’t like to play with one another and it caused me to delete automatically generated (double) posts I didn’t want and at one point reinstall my blog. Overall not one of my best experiences related to blogging, but it did give me a better understanding of the platform and a confirmation that my habit of making backups is a good one! But all is well now and after some testing I settled on the Lifestream plugin.
So what does this mean? From now on this blog will be a combination of automatic and manually created posts. On a daily basis a blogpost will be created from my tweets and shares of that day (if there are any that is) and it will be published automatically. Nothing I really have to do about it. I will also keep on writing regular ones (such as this one) which will (hopefully) be thought provoking and inspiring
.
I’m still figuring out what I want with this blog, but it’s slowly evolving into a sort of personal hub. A place where you can find all the things I like to share or write about gathered in one place.
