Blender’s 50 worst artists in music history

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

Taste, like beauty, is in the eye (or should that be mouth) of the beholder. This is the least that can be said about music site Blender and their article about the 50 worst artists in music history. They claim that the list contains the worst of the worst in musical talent.

When scanning the list I found myself liking a few of those bands and their music. What’s more: I count some of them as my favorite artists. For instance I own every CD that Live ever released and been to numerous of their concerts, enjoying every one of them. To some lesser extend the same goes for Jamiroquai. Many Doors fans will disagree with their listing as well. And when you look at the 2005 Top 2000 list of Dutch Radio 2, 2 songs of artists mentioned on the list are in the top 25.

Not only that. It’s pretty easy to come up with a few names that would do more justice to just this list. How about 2 Unlimited? Party Animals? Scooter? Back Street Boys? Spice Girls? Cheeky Girls? Las Ketchup? Crazy Frog? And that’s just from the top of my head. Sure, they had hits, but in no way could be considered extremely talented musical wise.

It’s just that some one’s least favorite song or artist ever could be another one’s favorite. List like these are fun to talk about, but just can’t be considered to be representing general taste.

Go back to the good ‘ol days with vinyl looking CD-R’s.

Toasting goodness: the rolling way of toasting (via Apartment Therapy) and Breakfast Art Image Toaster (via Gizmodo). They’re just not like Red Dwarf‘s Talkie Toaster, which is far superior (don’t worry, only fans of the show will get this one).
